Common Questions


Any Singapore citizen, Permanent Resident, or expatriate with a valid work pass can hire a helper, subject to approval from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). In addition, you must be older than 21 years in age, not be an undischarged bankrupt and have the mental capacity to understand and discharge your responsibilities as an employer.

It typically takes between three to six weeks upon selection of your helper to her arrival in Singapore, depending on the country of origin and the readiness of the maid’s documents.

Upon her arrival in Singapore, your helper will need to complete a medical checkup and the Settling in Programme (should your helper be working in Singapore for the first time), before she can be deployed to your residence to commence work.

No, it is not permitted for maids to engage in part-time employment as per MOM regulations.

Salaries vary based on the maid’s country of origin and experience. Typical starting monthly basic salaries for helpers from Philippines/Indonesia/Myanmar are $580/$550/$500 respectively, that increases according to individual helper’s skill and experience level. We can provide specific details based on your requirements and advise you accordingly.

The standard monthly levy is $300, for the first helper and increases to $450 for an additional helper. Fortunately, there is a concessionary levy rates of $60 that applies to families with a young child, elderly member or persons with disabilities. Please do let us know your situation and we will be happy to advise you accordingly.

You need to provide written consent to the agency, and we will assist with the transfer process and paperwork.

Please note that you remain responsible for your helper’s regular medical checkup and levy payment during the transfer process, until such time that she is issued a work permit from the new employer.

Ex-Singapore maids have worked in Singapore before, while new maids have no prior experience in Singapore. There are some helpers that have acquired some experience and skills while working in other countries, which might be prove to be an asset to your home. We will assess your needs and advise whether Ex-Singapore or a new maid would be more suitable for your home.

A $5,000 security bond is required to ensure employers fulfill their responsibilities towards their helpers. The security bond will be fully discharged when your helper’s work permit has been cancelled, and she has returned home with no breach of the security bond conditions.

MOM requires employers to maintain medical and accident insurance for their helpers when they are in Singapore. We have negotiated insurance packages with insurers that are one of the most comprehensive and cost effective in the market. We will be happy to provide you a free price quote.
